They work in a barren cellar, in a light-flooded studio, in a converted stable, in their own home, in a former museum or in the Heimatwerk. Their workspaces are located on the Emme or on the Ticino, in the centre of Zurich, Geneva or Basel, in Goms or in Val Müstair. Most of them don't know each other, but they have one thing in common: they weave and they talk about it. Whether they are 20 or 90 years old or somewhere in between, they talk about yarns and fabrics, about everyday life and work, about their passion for weaving, about their love of detail and great designs. Their fascination with threads, colours, shapes, aesthetically beautiful fabrics and textiles is infectious and their sustainable use of resources is impressive.
The book portrays fourteen weavers in sensitive texts and atmospheric photos. Further text contributions trace the history and development of weaving over the last hundred years or so and take a look into the future of this surprisingly vital craft.
